Investigation Underway Into Who Shot Estranged Husband Attacking Wife In Front Of Kids

Humble, TX – A man was fatally shot on Monday morning when he attacked his estranged wife in her home on their children’s first day of school.

The incident occurred early on Aug. 16 in the 7800-block of Peacock Park Drive in northeast Harris County, KRIV reported.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said deputies were dispatched to an “in progress call” for the residence in Humble.

The sheriff said a woman and her three children – ages seven, 11, and 16 – were headed out the door to the kids’ first day of school when her estranged husband showed up at the house.

“We don’t know what his intention was. It quickly escalated. She ran inside the home. He gave chase. Allegedly while inside the home, he began assaulting her,” Sheriff Gonzalez told reporters during a media briefing at the scene.

That was when someone inside the home opened fire on the estranged husband as he attacked his wife, KRIV reported.

“There were three children in the household at the time… they were getting prepared to go to school. It’s our understanding that out here in this area, they were returning to school today,” Sheriff Gonzalez said.

“During the assault, a weapon was produced by the homeowner or someone in the house,” the sheriff continued. “Shots were fired at the male who had come into the home. So he was shot when we arrived here.”

Officials said the man was wounded and was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, KRIV reported.

“It’s our understanding there’s been a history of domestic violence, perhaps between the homeowner and the individual that was pronounced deceased,” Sheriff Gonzalez told reporters.

“There may have been a warrant related to the domestic violence on the male that was subsequently executed by our agency, maybe within the last month or so,” the sheriff continued. “And he had been released on that warrant. And for some reason, he came today, on the first day of school, to engage with the female, possibly his estranged wife.”

Authorities were investigating to determine who had fired the shots that killed the man, KRIV reported.
