Investigation Finds Cop Forgot He Took Bite Of His Own McChicken Sandwich

The Marion County Sheriff's Office determined that a deputy had forgotten he had taken a bite from his sandwich.

Indianapolis, IN – An investigation into a bite missing from a law enforcement officer’s McChicken sandwich determined that the deputy had taken the bite himself before he went on shift and then forgot about it when he pulled his lunch out of the fridge later.

The investigation began after a local sheriff’s deputy told WTHR that he was served a McChicken sandwich with a bite missing from the McDonald’s located on West Morris Street and Holt Road, on the west side of Indianapolis where he is a regular customer.

The deputy said he stopped at the fast food restaurant and ordered a McChicken sandwich, a small fry, and some chocolate chip cookies.

But when he got to work and went to heat up his sandwich before eating, much to his surprise he found that somebody had already taken at least one bite out of his McChicken, WTHR reported.

“I started to warm up my McChicken and I noticed several small bites,” the deputy explained. “I know I didn’t eat it. No one else was around. I said, ‘You know what? I am going to the McDonald’s to see if they can get that taken care of.”

There has been a rash of food service employees tampering with and doing disgusting things to the meals ordered by law enforcement officers over the past two years and most cops have learned to check carefully before eating, just like this deputy did.

“I went to the McDonald’s and talked to the supervisor,” the deputy said. “She offered me some free food I didn’t care anything about. I just wanted to find out who the person was and they deal with that person in an appropriate way.”

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office told Blue Lives Matter in an email that it had investigated the deputy’s claims in conjunction with McDonald’s.

After a two week investigation, the sheriff’s department determined that it was the deputy himself who had taken a bite out of his own McChicken sandwich.

“Last week, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office employee purchased a McChicken sandwich from the McDonald’s location at 3828 W Morris Street, Indianapolis,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “The employee took a bite out of the sandwich upon starting his shift at the Marion County Jail, then placed it in the refrigerator in a break room. He returned nearly seven hours later having forgotten that he had previously bitten the sandwich. He wrongly concluded that a McDonald’s restaurant employee had tampered with his food because he is a law enforcement officer.”

The sheriff’s department said that McDonald’s assisted in the investigation into what had happened and was very helpful.

“The investigation has determined that McDonald’s restaurant staff in no way tampered with the employee’s food,” the sheriff’s office said. “[The deputy] has since formally apologized to McDonald’s. We recognize that McDonald’s is a valued civic partner, and any insinuation in private or in the media to the contrary is unfounded.”
