Portland, OR – A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death by a home intruder while fighting to protect his wife in mid-August.
The horrific attack occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on Aug. 13, as 26-year-old Travis Juetten and 24-year-old Jamilyn Juetten were asleep in their bed, WJW reported.
A friend who was sleeping in another room, explained Alian Leon, a close friend of the Juettens.
As they were sleeping, a masked man entered their bedroom and attacked them, WJW reported.
Travis was stabbed repeatedly as he fought to protect Jamilyn from the assailant.
Jamilyn was also stabbed 19 times before the friend in the nearby room heard the commotion and scared the home intruder away, Leon said.
The friend then called 911.
The masked intruder’s identity is unknown and he remains on the loose, WJW reported.
Travis succumbed to his wounds, and Jamilyn is still recovering, Leon said.
“He saved her life,” Leon confirmed. “He protected her from the attacker.”
One of the muscles in Jamilyn’s hand was severed in the brutal assault, potentially ending her ability to create the pottery she loves to make, he said.
She also suffered a fractured skull, two fractured vertebrae, a fractured shoulder blade, and nerve damage, according to a fundraising page established to help her through her recovery.
“Jamilyn’s road to recovery is not only physical but also mental and emotional as she faces both the loss of her soul mate and the inevitable changes her life will now have,” the page read.
Travis Juetten’s family released a statement asking the community to contact police if they have any information that could help identify and locate his killer, WJW reported.
“Our family is grieving the loss of our son, nephew, brother, and friend Travis Juetten, age 26, whose life was brutally cut short the morning of August 13th by an unknown assailant who murdered him inside his home,” the family said. “His wife Jamilyn was seriously injured and is recovering in the hospital.”
“Travis was a kind, gentle, and loving person who did not deserve to lose his life, and for reasons unknown to any of us,” they wrote. “While we grieve Travis’s loss and wish for Jamilyn’s health, we continue to be concerned for the safety of our family, friends, and neighbors. If you have any information that could be of assistance, please contact Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Your help is greatly appreciated.”
One of the couple’s cats disappeared during the incident, and Leon said he is hoping the community can help find it.
“Jamilyn wants to hold onto every piece of Travis that she can, so that would be some light on this dark event,” he told WJW.
The fundraising page established to help Jamilyn through her recovery has raised over $18,000 so far.
