DeKalb County, GA – A homeowner opened fire on four alleged home intruders on Thanksgiving Day, killing one, and then three juveniles were shot – including a 17 year old who was killed – at a vigil Sunday night for the home invasion suspect who was killed.
The incident occurred in the 2700-block of Gresham Road at approximately 5 p.m. on Nov. 24, WXIA reported.
The DeKalb County Police Department (DCPD) responded to the scene after receiving a report of someone being shot, according to the news outlet.
Responding officers arrived to find three suspects suffering from gunshot wounds, WXIA reported.
The suspects – a 15-year-old male, 18-year-old Taneaious McCune, and 23-year-old Jacqueze Grier – were all transported to a local hospital with injuries ranging from serious to critical, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
McCune succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Investigators said a fourth suspect involved in the incident showed up at the hospital later, also suffering from a gunshot wound, WXIA reported.
That suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Telvin Thomas, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
A SWAT team assisted the DCPD back at the scene of the shootout and detained “several other parties” who were also allegedly involved in the incident, WXIA reported.
Investigators determined that the four male suspects who were shot had been trying to break into the residence when they got into a gun battle with someone who lived there.
Police said no charges are expected to be filed against the resident, and noted that the shooting “appears justified,” WXIA reported.
“Our initial investigation indicates this was a targeted incident and not a random act,” police said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The four subjects arrived at the incident location and attempted a home invasion.”
“This shooting appears justified and no charges are expected to be filed against any of the residents,” police added.
The three suspects who survived the shootout have been charged with felony murder in connection with the death of McCune, WXIA reported.
Thomas and Grier have also been charged with home invasion, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Investigators said a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot and two other juveniles were wounded during a candlelight vigil for McCune that was held on Sunday night, WXIA reported.
The shooting occurred at 2051 Flat Shoals Parkway at approximately 6:18 p.m. on Nov. 28, according to WSB.
Police said the suspect opened fire during the vigil, killing the 17-year-old and wounding an 11-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, then fled the scene.
The two juveniles who survived the attack were both transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds to their hands, WXIA reported.
The investigation into that incident remained ongoing.
