The helicopter was in the air monitoring Charlottesville after a violent white nationalist rally resulted in white nationalists and Antifa brawling in the streets.
After a dispersal order was issued, the white nationalists left the area and the Antifa crowd began a victory march through the city.
During their victory march, a car accelerated through the large crowd of Antifa marchers, killing a 32-year-old female and seriously injuring many others.
Afterwards, while a Virginia State Police helicopters was in the air monitoring, there were reports of the helicopter flying low before crashing into the woods near Old Farm Road.
The helicopter burst into flames and was fully engulfed by the time first responders arrived on scene.
Both troopers on board the helicopter were killed.
The identities of the heroes have not been released at this time. The cause of the crash is still not known at this time.
President Trump tweeted out his condolences to the fallen heroes, saying, “Deepest condolences to the families & fellow officers of the VA State Police who died today. You’re all among the best this nation produces.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these two heroes and the Virginia State Police. Rest easy, heroes. We’ll hold the line from here.
