Hero Down: U.S. DOD Naval Dist. Washington PD Sgt. Anthony Oglesby Dies In Crash

U.S. DOD Naval District Washington Police Department Sgt. Anthony Oglesby died in the line of duty on Dec. 18.

Indian Head, MD – United States Department of Defense Naval District Washington Police Department Sergeant Anthony Oglesby died in the line of duty on Dec. 18 following a single-vehicle crash.

The 34-year-old sergeant was traveling southbound on Maryland Route 224 Chicamuxen Road near Sweden Point Road in his marked, 2015 Ford Taurus patrol vehicle when the deadly crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Maryland State Police (MSP) said in a press release.

“For unknown reasons, he drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree,” the MSP said. “The tree fell on top of the vehicle, which then caught fire.”

Sgt. Oglesby was alone in his patrol vehicle at the time of the crash.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sergeant’s body has been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy, state police said.

His longtime friend, Rickell Jones, said he first met Sgt. Oglesby when they attended college together in 2002.

“He had a good heart and he always kept a smile on his face,” Jones wrote in a Facebook post. “To hear the news of your passing today has truly devastated me… You made so many people proud of you and brother I tell you I will miss you tremendously!!”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of United States Department of Defense Naval District Washington Police Department Sergeant Anthony Oglesby, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
