Hero Down: Stone County Sheriff’s Sergeant Mark Long Dies After Shift

Mountain View, AR - Stone County Sheriff's Sergeant Mark Long, age 51, died on Monday, August 28.

Sergeant Long had just finished his shift and was enroute to a local hospital when he died, according to a statement from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said that he apparently died of natural causes.  Sergeant Long was a six-year veteran of the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, where he was assigned as a Patrol Supervisor.

Friends said that he had “a heart of gold”, and loved hunting and fishing.  Sergeant Long’s “love and passion for his job, co-workers, and friends made an impact on many people. He was always there to lend a hand or a kind word to those that crossed his path. Mark’s constant encouragement, hilarious remarks, and smile always made each day brighter.”

He is survived by his parents.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Stone County Sheriff’s Sergeant Mark Long, both blood and blue.  Godspeed, sir, we will take the watch from here.  Thank you for your service.
