Hero Down: Slidell Police Lieutenant Ray Dupuy, Jr. Killed On Motorcycle

Slidell, LA - Slidell Police Lieutenant Ray Dupuy, Jr., age 52, was killed in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday night, September 20. He was off-duty at the time.

The crash occurred about 10:30 PM on Brownswitch Road, west of Robert Boulevard, according to WWL TV.

Louisiana state troopers said that Gina Groglio tried to turn left on Brownswitch Road into a private driveway when the crash happened. The front of Lieutenant Dupuy’s motorcycle crashed into the passenger side rear corner of Groglio’s vehicle.

Lieutenant Dupuy was severely injured and was transported to Ochsner Medical Center before being airlifted to University Medical Center, where he later died.

Groglio provided state troopers with a breath sample, which was negative for alcohol.  She was cited for improper turning, and may face additional charges later.

Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said, “Lieutenant Ray Dupuy was a dedicated public servant who served and protected the citizens of Slidell for over two decades. Please keep Lieutenant Dupuy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. This is going to be a very difficult time for our Slidell Police family.”

Lieutenant Dupuy served with the Slidell Police Department for 23 years, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.  He is survived by his wife Connie, his children Darryl Brindell, Jessica James, Krysten Dupuy, and Ray Dupuy III, along with other family members.

Four other police officers, John Gasparyan, Elias Martinez, Timothy O’Neill, and James Branik all died from motorcycle collisions in the past week.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Lieutenant Ray Dupuy, both blood and blue.  Godspeed, sir, we will take the watch from here.  Thank you for your service.
