Hero Down: Scranton Police Department Officer John Hallock Found Dead In Swimming Pool

Kingston, PA – Scranton Police Department (SPD) Officer John Hallock died in a swimming pool accident while off duty on June 18, according to his department.

According to the Kingston Police Department (KPD), the 52-year-old officer was found not breathing in a residential swimming pool at approximately 2:45 a.m., WNEP reported.

Investigators said Officer Hallock’s death was not considered suspicious.

His exact cause of death was not immediately released.

The SPD announced the loss of Officer Hallock in a press release the following day.

The longtime officer joined the SPD in 1999 and devoted the next 24 years of his life to his law enforcement career.

Officer Hallock was West Scranton’s first bicycle patrolman, and he was also a member of the SPD’s Dive and Rescue Team, according to his obituary.

“He was well known for his loyalty to his friends and his love for his family,” the tribute read.

Officer Hallock leaves behind his daughters, Christina, Justyne, and Nikole, and his granddaughter, Abigail.

He is also survived by his brothers and his son-in-law.

“We send our condolences to his family, and friends,” the SPD said. “He will be greatly missed.”

Hundreds of people offered their condolences to Officer Hallock’s family and the SPD in response to the department’s announcement.

“So very sorry to hear this. He was a great man,” one message read. “Sending thoughts & prayers to his family & friends.”

“I’m so very sorry for your loss,” another person wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with you his fellow officers and his family. Rest In Peace John.”

Officer Hallock will be laid to rest on June 26, according to his obituary.
