“Robert’s true commitment and dedication to family, the police department and the community of Savage was evident by his professionalism, kindness, respect, integrity and community engagement,” the SPD said.

“Robert was a true mentor to those who joined our police department family. He was knowledgeable, optimistic, friendly and always gave sound advice. He had a wonderful personality and was highly respected and admired by all of his colleagues,” the agency noted.

He leaves behind his wife of five years, Amanda, as well as his 10-year-old daughter and his one-month-old son, Shakopee Valley News reported.

Officer Calvin is also survived by his parents, sister, nieces, nephews, many friends and extended family members, and “his brothers and sisters in blue,” according to his obituary.

“Our most heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and the entire Calvin family,” the SPD said.

Officer Calvin was laid to rest on Wednesday.
