Hero Down: Sacramento County Deputy Bob French Murdered – Two CHP Officers Shot

Sacramento, CA - Sacramento County Deputy Bob French,52, was murdered and two CHP officers were shot Wednesday afternoon at the Ramada Inn at Fulton Ave and Auburn Boulevard.

Officers pursued a stolen vehicle earlier in the day that ended in Elk Grove, and two female suspects were taken into custody.

The multi-agency auto theft task force was conducting a related investigation at the Ramada Inn and was going to search a room connected to the theft ring. A suspect in the room opened fire on officers through the door and walls, striking two CHP officers.

The shooter then went out on the balcony with a high-powered rifle and opened fire on deputies, fatally shooting Deputy Bob French.

The suspect was able to flee to a vehicle and led officers on a pursuit which ended in a gunfight on El Camino Ave. The suspect was shot and was transported to the hospital.

The two CHP officers are talking and alert.

Deputy Bob French was a 21-year veteran with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. He is survived by his live-in girlfriend, children, and grandchildren.
