Hero Down: Pine Bluff Police Officer Crystal Wyrick Dies After Collapsing At Hospital

Little Rock, AR – Pine Bluff Police Department (PBPD) Officer Crystal Wyrick died unexpectedly on April 3 after she walked into a local hospital and collapsed.

PBPD Lieutenant David DeFoor said the 37-year-old, off-duty officer went to Baptist Health Medical Center on Monday and collapsed shortly after she walked into the hospital, KATV reported.

Officer Wyrick underwent multiple emergency surgeries after she fell unresponsive, but she ultimately did not survive, Lt. DeFoor confirmed.

Her exact cause of death was not immediately released.

The PBPD confirmed Officer Wyrick’s death in a press release later the same day.

“Pine Bluff Police Department mourns the loss of one of our own, Officer Crystal Wyrick, Badge #7410,” the department said.

She was a five-year veteran of the PBPD and was assigned to the agency’s Swing-Shift Patrol Division.

“Please keep Officer Wyrick’s family, friends, and the PBPD family in your prayers,” the department said.

PBPD Chief Denise Richardson said Officer Wyrick became close friends with many of her coworkers during her years of service, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported.

“She has been with us for five years, and she was a dedicated employee, well-liked,” Chief Richardson said.

The chief said Officer Wyrick was good at her job and that she would likely have moved into other divisions within the department as time went on.

“She was a nice, young woman with a big smile and laugh,” Chief Richardson told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette. “She was a part of our family. It’s just shocking… We’re just trying to take care of the things we need to take care of and each other.”

Officer Wyrick leaves behind her four children, 20-year-old Ky’Ren, 16-year-old Ca’Niyah, 10-year-old Kaden, and seven-year-old Kylee, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

She is also survived by her mother, two brothers, and four sisters.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Pine Bluff Police Department Officer Crystal Wyrick, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
