Hero Down: Pascagoula Police K9 Exo Fatally Shot By Convicted Felon

Moss Point, MS – Pascagoula Police Department (PPD) K9 Exo died in the line of duty on June 23 after being shot by a suspect he was tracking.

The incident occurred on Aster Street near the community of Helena at approximately 3:30 p.m., WLOX reported.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) was searching for 36-year-old convicted felon Mitchell Wayne Robinson in connection with an aggravated assault with a firearm offense when K9 Exo and his handler, PPD Officer James Prisock, arrived to help track the suspect in a wooded area, according to WXXV.

When the duo located him, Robinson opened fire on them, hitting the Belgian Malinois twice in his chest, according to police.

Officer Prisock returned fire, hitting the gunman, WLOX reported.

K9 Exo was rushed to an emergency veterinarian in Mobile, Alabama, where he succumbed to his wounds.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce K9 Officer Exo was killed in the line of duty yesterday,” the PPD said in a press release on June 24. “We ask for prayers for his handler, Officer Prisock, his family and our department as we mourn the loss of our fallen hero, K9 Officer Exo.”

Robinson was transported to Singing River Hospital, where he remained in intensive care on Friday, the Sun Herald reported.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to WXXV.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the ongoing investigation into the incident.

The PPD said it will hold a memorial service in K9 Exo’s honor on July 1.

“Our fallen hero’s ashes will be escorted from Mobile, AL to Pascagoula, MS,” the department said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “We appreciate all of the support and love so many have shown our agency and city during this very difficult time.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pascagoula Police Department and Officer Prisock in the loss of K9 Exo.
