Hero Down: NYPD Officer Brittany Gromadzin Dies From Mystery Medical Issue

New York Police Department Officer Brittany Gomadzin, 29, served her department for four years.

Staten Island, NY – New York Police Department (NYPD) Officer Brittany Gromadzin died unexpectedly from an undetermined medical issue on Wednesday, according to her father.

Officer Gromadzin, 29, had been receiving medical treatment for nearly a year for “unknown ailments,” and underwent a multitude of tests during that time, her father, Jim Kelly, said in a Facebook post.

She passed away at an area hospital at 4:05 a.m., surrounded by her family, Kelly wrote.

“Brittany’s passing this morning was totally unexpected,” he explained. “We all remain in shock…We are heartbroken [and] in total disbelief.”

Officer Gromadzin joined the NYPD four years ago, and was assigned to the 121st Precinct in Staten Island.

“Our family would like to personally thank the NYSP, NYPD and members of her 121 Precinct [at] her command here in Staten Island,” Kelly wrote. “All were with us during the night & morning hours at the hospital.”

“I ask you for prayers for my Brittany [and] all our family,” he said.

Officer Gromadzin leaves behind her husband, Jon, and their eight-year-old daughter, Gianna.

The family is still arranging her memorial service, Kelly said.

The 121st Precinct Community Council cancelled their scheduled meeting on Wednesday in the wake of the young officer’s tragic death.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of New York Police Department Officer Brittany Gromadzin, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
