Hero Down: NYPD Officer Amy Fantauzzi Found Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot

Bronx, NY – New York Police Department (NYPD) Officer Amy Fantauzzi died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on May 31.

Officer Fantauzzi, 39, fatally shot herself in her head inside her Throggs Neck apartment at approximately 2 a.m., according to the New York Post.

Her girlfriend, who is also an NYPD officer, discovered her body when she returned home from work, the New York Daily News reported.

Police sources told the New York Post that Officer Fantauzzi was distraught over problems in her relationship. She wrote about her struggles in a letter she left behind.

Officer Fantauzzi served with the NYPD’s 23rd Precinct in East Harlem.

On June 12, a long line of officers gathered on the Concourse in the Bronx to pay their final respects to Officer Fantauzzi, the New York City Police Benevolent Association (PBA) said in a Facebook post.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of New York Police Department Officer Amy Fantauzzi, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
