Hero Down: Louisville Metropolitan Police Officer Rob Oliver Dies From Injuries Suffered In Off-Duty Motorcycle Crash

Louisville, KY – Louisville Metropolitan Police Department (LMPD) Officer Rob Oliver died on March 29 due to complications from injuries he suffered during a motorcycle crash nearly three weeks earlier.

The veteran officer succumbed to his injuries at the University of Louisville Hospital, WDRB reported.

Officer Oliver was off-duty when the crash occurred.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I inform of the death of one of our Brothers,” LMPD Interim Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel told the rest of the department in a statement, according to WLKY. “This evening, Officer Rob Oliver passed away.”

Chief Gwinn-Villaroel said Officer Oliver “spent his lifetime in service to others.”

The U.S. Army veteran began his law enforcement career in Jeffersonville, Indiana, prior to joining the LMPD 18 years ago, WLKY reported.

He was most recently assigned as the District Resource Officer for the department’s First Division, and he was also a member of the LMPD Honor Guard, Chief Gwinn-Villaroel noted.

Chief Gwinn-Villaroel said the fallen officer was one of her mentors, WLKY reported.

“Rob served with us for 18 years and was known for his abundance of kindness and quiet generosity,” she said.

“In addition to his LMPD Family, Rob was a loving son, father, grandfather, and brother. Please keep his loved-ones in your thoughts and prayers, and please do the same for the people who were blessed enough to work with him daily throughout his career with LMPD,” the chief wrote. “Take care of yourselves and each other.”

A procession of law enforcement officers escorted Officer Oliver’s body to a funeral home in Jeffersonville on Wednesday night, WDRB reported.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Louisville Metropolitan Police Department Officer Rob Oliver, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
