Lima, OH – Lima Police Department (LPD) K9 Grizz died unexpectedly on March 30 after suffering a brief illness, according to his department.
The LPD K9 Unit announced K9 Grizz’s death in a Facebook post later that night.
“We are sad to announce the passing of K9 Grizz,” the post read. “Grizz was having difficulty getting around over the weekend and was transported to Ft. Wayne. Unfortunately, Grizz passed away while at the hospital.”
K9 Grizz served his community alongside his human partner, LPD Patrolman Aaron Montgomery, for the past six years, WLIO reported.
He was responsible for many apprehensions and seizures, but also enjoyed playing as much as he loved to work, the LPD said in a Facebook post.
“Ptl. Montgomery and Grizz have been a team for six years and have shown to be a huge asset to the department,” the LPD K9 Unit said. “Grizz has made several apprehensions over his career and made sure his handler/best friend made it home safe every night.”
“Ptl. Montgomery was teamed up with Grizz when Grizz was just a puppy and their bond went beyond measure,” the post read. “We all know the pain and heartache of losing one of our pets/family members. Please keep Ptl. Montgomery and his family in your thoughts as they get through this difficult time. Rest now buddy, we’ll take it from here!”
The beloved K9 was honored during a police procession through the downtown area on March 30, The Lima News reported.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lima Police Department and Patrolman Montgomery in the loss of K9 Grizz.
