Las Vegas, NV – Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) Officer Briar Huff died on Christmas Day while vacationing with her family in Mexico, according to police.
Officer Huff’s exact cause of death was not released.
Prior to joining the LVMPD, Officer Huff served as a marshal with the Boulder City Police Department (BCPD), the agency said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
“With heavy hearts we announce the passing of former Boulder City Marshal and current LVMPD Officer Briar Huff,” the BCPD’s post read. “Officer Briar Huff passed away on Christmas Day while on vacation in Mexico.”
Officer Huff is the wife of current BCPD Officer Todd Huff.
Her brother is an officer with the LVMPD.
“Her passing is devastating to all the BCPD, BC Court, and LVMPD families,” the police department said. “We will always remember her contagious laugh and smile, fun filled spirit, and dedication to public service.”
Officer Huff also leaves behind her young son, as well as “many other family members and friends she called family,” the BCPD said.
She devoted nearly 10 years of her life to serving her community.
“With a career in law enforcement for close to a decade, she was always a kind hearted and friendly person, willing to help others and be a strong role model for myself and many others,” Vegas Thin Blue Line said in a Facebook post Dec. 28. “Our prayers are going out to the family, loved ones, and friends who are affected by this unthinkable tragedy. We are sending all the love we can to you all.”
Officer Huff was laid to rest on Jan. 5.
