Steubenville, OH – Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Lieutenant Detective Terrance “Terry” Grindle died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, according to his department.
The 47-year-old lieutenant detective was rushed to the Trinity West emergency room, where he was pronounced dead, according to his obituary.
The JCSO confirmed the veteran deputy’s death in a Facebook post later the same day.
“It is with heavy hearts we announce the untimely, sudden passing of one of our own,” the post read. “Lieutenant Detective Terry Grindle, a 25 year veteran of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, passed away unexpectedly this morning. Please, keep his family and loved ones in your hearts and prayers.”
The sheriff’s office said in a later post that Lt. Det. Grindle is both “loved and missed.”
His exact cause of death was not released.
The JCSO received an outpouring of support as news of Lt. Det. Grindle’s tragic death spread.
“Lt. Det. Terry Grindle, was a great guy,” someone posted in response to the department’s announcement. “He would have gave the shirt off his back for ANYONE. He never judged a book by it’s cover, no matter what the circumstances may be. Very nice, respectful, and will be forever missed, and loved by so many.”
His daughter, Kyley, said Lt. Det. Grindle “was nothing but a perfect man.”
“I couldn’t have been more blessed to have such a perfect father,” she wrote in response to the JCSO’s post. “He was and is my entire world. Life’s gonna be hard without him but lord knows he’s with me.”
In addition to his daughter, Lt. Det. Grindle also leaves behind his wife, Kristen, as well as his mother, sisters, and brother, according to his obituary.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday.
