Hero Down: Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Allinder Succumbs To Sudden Illness

Birmingham, AL – Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Deputy Chad Allinder died on June 5 after battling a brief sudden illness, according to his department.

The 50-year-old deputy’s exact cause of death was not released.

“Deputy Chad Allinder served the citizens of Jefferson County for 18 years,” the JCSO said in a final radio call shared to Facebook on Monday. “He was loved and respected throughout the department and in his personal life.”

“Deputy Allinder was more than a deputy,” the department added. “He was a kind soul who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was a great friend…”

The JCSO said the beloved deputy “could tell a story like no other.”

“For those who knew and loved him, the world grew a little darker Sunday with his passing,” the sheriff’s office said. “Chad, my friend, keep them on their toes up there and watch over us all.”

Deputy Allinder was one of two JCSO deputies who received the Myers-McBee award in 2021 for taking down a theft ring responsible for stealing more than $600,000 in wiring components from AT&T towers in the area, The Birmingham News reported.

“Chad had such a special impact on our lives in different ways,” his obituary read. “He loved big and we should find comfort in knowing we have the police with wings on our side. Through the clouds there will be brighter days ahead! He will forever be missed.”

Deputy Allinder leaves behind his life partner, Mark.

He is also survived by his brother, nephews, great-nephews, aunt, cousins, and many “friends considered family” according to his obituary.

“Rest easy our brother, we’ll take it from here,” the JCSO tweeted on Monday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chad Allinder, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
