Fairfield Glade, TN – Fairfield Glade Police Department (FGPD) Officer Jerry Singleton died in the line of duty on New Year’s Eve due to apparent natural causes, according to his department.
Fairfield Glade Police Chief Michael Williams announced the longtime law enforcement officer’s death in a Facebook post just before midnight.
“It is with great sadness that the Fairfield Glade Police Department announces the death of Officer Jerry Singleton of the Fairfield Glade Police Department,” Chief Williams wrote. “Officer Singleton passed away during his shift on December 31, 2019 of apparent natural causes.”
The 52-year-old officer’s law enforcement career spanned three decades.
In addition to his work with the FGPD, he also previously served the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, Rockwood Police Department, Kingston Police Department, and the Harriman Police Department.
“Jerry was liked by all and he had the ability to connect with everyone,” Chief Williams said. “Officer Singleton died while serving and this is what he loved to do.”
“Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” the post read.
The Roane County Sheriff’s Office described Officer Singleton as a “friendly and caring man” in a Facebook post on Tuesday night.
“Close friends say that Jerry never met a stranger. Jerry will always be remembered and sorely missed,” the sheriff’s office said. “Rest in peace Officer Singleton. Enjoy retirement in heaven, we will take it from here.”
The Kingston Police Department said it was heartbroken to learn of Officer Singleton’s sudden death.
“Officer Singleton worked at the Kingston Police Department for many years and was loved by many,” the agency said in a Facebook post. “Please remember his family in your prayers. Rest easy brother.”
