Des Moines, Iowa – Des Moines Senior Police Officer Tori Aletheia died on Saturday, Dec. 23, following surgery for a medical condition. She was off-duty at the time.
In a post on Facebook, the Des Moines Police Department said:
“It is with great sadness that we report the death of a member of the DMPD family. Senior Police Officer Tori Aletheia died yesterday, following a surgery in Iowa City.
SPO Aletheia had proudly served the Des Moines community since 2013, and was also a military veteran.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, and we thank everyone who has reached out with support.”
Officer Aletheia had previously made the news when she and her patrol partner saved eight people from a burning building in January 2014.
Des Moines Sgt. Jason Halifax told KCCI at the time, “So they were able to get into the house, make entry into the house, get all the occupants out of the house and obviously before they even got there, they called in on the radio so they got the fire trucks rolling and that kind of thing.”
Thanks to their actions, four adults and four children were able to make it out of the fire.
A video was uploaded of the 21 gun salute at her funeral.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Des Moines Senior Police Officer Tori Aletheia, both blood and blue. Godspeed, we will take the watch from here. Thank you for your service.
