The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 27, according to the Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department (AACPD) said the 53-year-old off-duty sergeant was traveling southbound on Route 4 on a 2022 Harley Davidson FLHXS Street Glide when a 2019 Honda Accord turned in front of him from Talbot Road, Southern Maryland News reported.

“The rider of the Harley Davidson was unable to avoid striking the Honda and was ejected from the motorcycle,” the AACPD said.

Sgt. Andriani was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 30, Southern Maryland News reported.

The 23-year-old man behind the wheel of the Honda was not injured in the collision.

Police did not immediately identify the Honda driver and it is unclear whether or not any charges have been filed.

Sgt. Andriani served the MPD for 25 years, according to Southern Maryland News.

He was most recently assigned to the MPD’s Criminal Investigations Division.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 confirmed the longtime sergeant’s death in a Facebook post on Aug. 30.

“With great sadness we must announce the passing of the Metropolitan Police Departments Detective Sergeant Lance Andriani of CID / 7D Detectives Office,” the FOP said. “While the details are not fully known, our brother, colleague and friend was involved in a non-duty related vehicular crash. May you Rest In Peace!”
