Hero Down: DC Metro Special Police Officer Angela Washington Murdered By Gunman

Washington, DC – DC Metro Special Police Department (MSPD) Special Police Officer Angela Washington was murdered in the line of duty while working in Southeast DC Tuesday night.

The 41-year-old officer, who was armed and in full uniform, was working in the 3300-block of 10th Place Southeast in Congress Heights when she was shot at approximately 8:40 p.m., The Washington Post reported.

DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers were on the scene within five minutes, WTOP reported.

Details regarding the nature of the call have not been released.

They arrived to find Officer Washington wounded, unresponsive, and not breathing, WTTG reported.

MPD homicide detectives responded to the scene shortly thereafter.

MPD Chief Robert Contee said Officer Washington was working at a nearby apartment complex when she was gunned down, WTOP reported.

Chief Contee called the entire situation “unfortunate.”

“My heart goes out to the family of this Special Police officer,” he said.

Investigators said they are searching for a white Camry with dark tinted windows, WTOP reported.

MPD is also offering a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.

Officer Washington’s aunt, Barbara Simms, said she called her niece from Missouri earlier in the day to talk with her about another family member’s illness, The Washington Post reported.

“I told her, ‘Life is short, I don’t know how long we’ll be here,’ and that I loved her,” Simms said.

She later received a call notifying her Officer Washington had been murdered.

“We knew she had a dangerous job,” Simms told The Washington Post. “But she really loved what she did. She died a soldier.”

Officer Washington leaves behind four children, ages 16, 18, 19, and 21, and her one-year-old grandson.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of DC Metro Special Police Department Special Police Officer Angela Washington, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Officer Angela Washington, your life mattered.
