Hero Down: Colonial Regional PD Sgt. John Harmon Succumbs To Cancer

Bushkill, PA – Colonial Regional Police Department (CRPD) Sergeant John Harmon died on April 22, following a courageous battle against cancer, according to his family.

Sgt. Harmon, 55, received his diagnosis earlier this year, the CRPD said in a Facebook post.

He passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family, according to his obituary.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Sgt. John Harmon, badge #910,” the police department’s post read. “Sgt. Harmon lost a sudden and quick battle with cancer over the past 4 months.”

Sgt. Harmon, who was born in Spain, served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps before he began his law enforcement career at the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department, according to his obituary.

He joined the CRPD in 1995, and spent the next 25 years serving as a bike patrol sergeant, field training officer supervisor, collision reconstructionist, color guard member, and Northampton County Drug Task Force member, the police department said.

Sgt. Harmon also worked part-time at the NHPD.

“John was a hardworking good man, who always made sure he provided for his family,” his obituary read. “He was a devout husband, father, son, brother, and friend. John was most proud of his daughter, Claire, who bloomed into a successful young adult through his guidance. He always wanted the best for her and to show her how to survive the winding paths of life.”

In addition to his daughter, Sgt. Hamon leaves behind his wife, Sandy, as well as his siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was laid to rest on April 27.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Colonial Regional Police Department Sergeant John Harmon, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
