Collier County, FL – Collier County Sheriff’s K9 Ajax died on Thursday, November 9 after undergoing a medical procedure from which he did not recover.
K9 Ajax helped provide security for President Trump during his September 14 visit to Collier County following Hurricane Irma, according to Naples Daily News.
He was two and one-half years old, and spent numerous hours working and training with his handler, Collier County Sheriff’s Corporal Eugene Shakuro. In 2016, Cpl. Shakuro and K9 Ajax completed the patrol/detection course.
In a Facebook post, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit said:
“It is with great sadness that the Collier County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit announces the passing of K9 Ajax. K9 Ajax underwent a medical procedure Nov. 9 and did not recover.
K9 Ajax was handled by Cpl. Eugene Shakuro. This team completed their patrol/detection course last year. Cpl. Shakuro spent numerous hours working with K9 Ajax, settling for nothing but perfection. K9 Ajax had recently been tasked with providing security for President Trump during his Sept. 14 trip to Naples.
K9 Ajax had a great personality and an outstanding drive to want to work. Please keep Cpl. Shakuro in your thoughts during his difficult time as he, and the CCSO K9 Unit have suffered a huge loss.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in the loss of K9 Ajax.
