Hero Down: Cohasset Police Officer Mark Jenkins Dies After Collapsing During Dinner With Coworkers

Cohasset, MA – Cohasset Police Department (CPD) Officer Mark Jenkins died unexpectedly after suffering a medical emergency on March 11, according to his department.

The 55-year-old off-duty officer was out to dinner with his coworkers when he suddenly collapsed, according to a fundraising page established to help his family in the wake of their loss.

His fellow officers started CPR and other lifesaving measures in an attempt to revive him, but they were unsuccessful, CPD Chief William Quigley said in a Facebook post on March 12.

“It is with deep and profound sadness that I announce the sudden death of active Officer Mark Jenkins,” Chief Quigley wrote. “We thank the City of Quincy emergency services and the staff of the Carney Hospital for their heroic efforts to save our beloved Mark. “

Officer Jenkins, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, served as a computer forensics expert for both the CPD’s Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Coast Guard’s Investigative Service, according to his obituary.

“Mark will be remembered for his loyalty and generosity,” the tribute read. “He was always happiest being around other people and spending time with his family and friends. He would help anyone in need.”

Officer Jenkins was also known for his infectious laugh.

“His larger than life presence will be greatly missed,” his obituary read.

Officer Jenkins leaves behind his wife, Maria, as well as his children.

He is also survived by his siblings, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.

“While our hearts are filled with sorrow, they are also filled with love, as we help Mark’s wife and children with final arrangements,” Chief Quigley said. “Please say a prayer for the Jenkins family.”

Officer Jenkins was laid to rest on March 17.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Cohasset Police Department Officer Mark Jenkins, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
