Hero Down: Clifton Police Sgt. Robert Miller Dies Unexpectedly

Clifton, NJ – Clifton Police Department (CPD) Sergeant Robert “Bobby” Miller died unexpectedly on Feb. 5, according to his department.

The 50-year-old sergeant’s exact cause of death was not released.

The CPD announced Sgt. Miller’s passing in a press release the following day.

“We are absolutely devastated by the loss of our friend and co-worker, Sgt. Robert Miller,” the department said. “Bobby or ‘Miller Bob,’ as he was commonly referred to, passed away suddenly early yesterday morning leaving us all with a tremendous sense of loss.”

Sgt. Miller joined the CPD as a dispatcher in 1998, according to his obituary.

He began serving as a police officer in April of 2004, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2016.

“Bobby was as kind and humble as they come,” the CPD said. “He had a self-deprecating sense of humor and a personality that was hard not to like. He was the type of guy that you would want responding to a call involving a family member or loved one. He had no ego, was always smiling, and treated everyone he encountered with the utmost respect.”

“It is rare to come across someone as down to earth and as universally loved as Bobby. We will miss him tremendously,” the police department said. “All losses hurt, but some hurt just a little more than normal. This is one of those times.”

Sgt. Miller leaves behind his wife, Kimberly, and his children, Ryan and Shannon, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by his mother, siblings, and his aunt.

“He was just a gentleman,” Clifton Mayor James Anzaldi told the North Jersey Record. “As I understand from everybody, he was also very well-liked.”

“Our hearts are very heavy about losing someone so young in the system,” Anzaldi added. “Our sympathies go out to his family and friends and the larger family of the Police Department.”

Sgt. Miller was laid to rest Feb. 15, the CPD said in a Facebook post.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Clifton Police Department Sergeant Robert “Bobby” Miller, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
