Hero Down: Cedar Bluff Police Sgt. Christopher Vaughn Dies After Medical Issue While On-Duty

Cedar Bluff, AL – Cedar Bluff Police Department (CBPD) Sergeant Christopher Vaughn died in the line of duty on April 1 due to a medical issue.

The CBPD announced the 38-year-old sergeant’s death in a press release later the same evening.

“It is with great sadness that Mayor [Tammy Grace] Crane, The Town of Cedar Bluff, and Cedar Bluff Police Department must announce the passing of Sgt. Christopher Michael Vaughn,” the press release read. “Sgt. Vaughn passed away after medical complications while on duty on April 1, 2022.”

His exact cause of death was not released.

Sgt. Vaughn’s law enforcement career began in 2009, when he joined the Leesburg Police Department.

He was hired by the CBPD in 2015.

“The hard work and dedication of Sgt. Vaughn swill be greatly missed by his fellow officers and the residents of Cedar Bluff,” the CBPD’s press release read. “Sgt. Vaughn worked tirelessly to serve the residents of Cedar Bluff.”

“Sgt. Vaughn was an excellent example of a law enforcement professional and was highly respected by all other law enforcement in the area,” the department noted. “Please keep the family, friends, and co-workers in your prayers.”

Sgt. Vaughn leaves behind his wife, Ariel, as well as his sons, Brayden and Bradley, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by his parents, brother, nephews, nieces, and many friends.

“I want to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts, and prayers. They are felt,” Ariel wrote in a Facebook post on April 2. “My boys sure are proud of their daddy and seeing everyone speak so highly of him makes them even more proud. There’s so much more I want to say, I just can’t seem to put the words together. It hurts. Please continue to pray for my family.”

Sgt. Vaughn will be laid to rest on April 7.
