Sandy MaloneDurant, OK – Bryan County Sheriff’s Deputy Jarid Taylor was killed early on Tuesday morning when his patrol vehicle crashed into a tree while he was responding to an emergency call.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Captain Scott Hampton said that the 31-year-old Deputy Taylor was on-duty and responding to a 911 call just after 6 a.m. on Jan. 14 when he wrecked, KXII reported.
Capt. Hampton said that Deputy Taylor’s patrol vehicle left the roadway and smashed into a tree on Old Highway 70 East near Lone Oak Road near Durant.
The highway patrol said that Deputy Taylor died at the scene, KOKH reported.
Highway patrol investigators were reconstructing the accident as part of the investigation, KXII reported.
Capt. Hampton said investigators were trying to determine if weather was a factor in the fatal crash.
KXII reported that the fallen duty was a native of Bryan County.
Deputy Taylor is survived his five-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.
He was engaged to be married, KTEN reported.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said that Deputy Taylor joined the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office in February of 2018, KOKH reported.
He began as a jailer for Bryan County, graduated from CLEET, and then served as a school resource officer for Silo Schools before he was recently assigned to patrol.
