Plantation, FL – Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Sergeant Kevin Forsberg died unexpectedly on Jan. 27.
The 53-year-old sergeant’s exact cause of death was not released.
Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony announced Sgt. Forsberg’s death in a Facebook post several days later.
“With a heavy heart, we announce the untimely loss of a longtime employee, Sergeant Kevin Forsberg, who passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023,” Sheriff Tony wrote. “Sergeant Forsberg served 21 years with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and was a great asset to the BSO’s Homicide Unit. He was a dedicated father, public servant and friend. His loved ones and his BSO family will forever carry on his legacy.”
As a member of the BSO Homicide Unit, Sgt. Forsberg “oversaw a unit of dedicated men and women, who all collectively work tirelessly to protect the community from some of society’s most dangerous individuals,” his obituary read.
“Sergeant Forsberg was a great father, family man, great person, great friend to those who knew him, and a great law enforcement officer,” the tribute read. “Sergeant Forsberg gave and dedicated everything he had to his family, friends, coworkers, and the community.”
He was also a member of the cast of A&E’s “The First 48,” where he and his team raced to solve murders immediately after crimes are committed.
The Florida Police Benevolent Association (FPBA) also released a statement in the wake of the longtime sergeant’s death.
“Our hearts go out to Sergeant Kevin Forsberg’s family, friends and colleagues at Broward Sheriff’s Office where he served in the BSO’s Homicide Unit,” the FPBA said. “We are forever indebted to his brave service and pray that he will Rest In Peace.”
