Benton County, IN – Boswell Town Marshal Kevin McCombs died in a single-vehicle crash while off duty early Monday morning.
The incident occurred on State Road 352 near County Road 500 East just before 3:30 a.m., WLFI reported.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Department (BCSD) responded to the scene and requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police (ISP).
Investigators determined Marshal McCombs was traveling westbound in a 2018 Ram 2500 when he inexplicably drifted off the south side of the roadway, WLFI reported.
His truck crashed into a utility pole before it came to rest in a field, according to police.
First responders had to extricate the injured marshal from the wreckage in order to render medical aid, WLFI reported.
Despite their efforts, the 34-year-old marshal succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the exact cause of the fatal collision remains ongoing, WLFI reported.
In addition to his service as the Boswell town marshal, Marshal McCombs was also a BCSD reserve deputy and served with the Benton County EMS, according to WBIW.
“He was an integral part of the fire department for 10 years,” Wabash Township Assistant Chief Jim Lewis told the Journal & Courier.
Marshal McCombs achieved the rank of assistant chief before he left the Wabash Township Fire Department in 2018, Chief Lewis said.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Kevin McCombs. He was a valuable member of the public safety community, serving as Town Marshal, reserve deputy, firefighter, paramedic & PIO for the EMA.
