Hero Down: Bibb County Deputy Carey Vann Dies While Battling Illness

Bibb County, GA – Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputy Carey Vann died on June 11 while battling an unexpected illness, according to his department.

The 63-year-old deputy passed away at a local hospital, the BCSO said in a Facebook post later the same day.

Details regarding his exact cause of death were not released.

“It is with a heavy heart that the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says goodbye to Deputy Carey Vann,” the BCSO said. “He proudly served and protected his community for 35 faithful and dedicated years.”

During the nearly four decades he served the citizens of Bibb County, Deputy Vann received 35 letters of commendation.

In addition to his work in the Motor and Patrol Units, Deputy Vann also served in the Criminal Investigations Unit Violent Crimes Unit and as a member of the Armed Robbery Task Force, the BCSO said.

“Please keep his loved ones and the Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts during this difficult time,” the agency’s post read. “We are thankful for his lifetime of dedicated service to our community. Deputy Vann will be greatly missed.”

Deputy Vann leaves behind his two daughters, Hope and Lacey, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by many relatives and friends.

Deputy Vann was laid to rest on June 18.
