Hero Down: Auburndale Police Department Officer Scott Bennett Succumbs To Multiple Sclerosis

Auburndale, FL – Auburndale Police Department (APD) Officer Scott Bennett died on May 19 after a battle against multiple sclerosis (MS), according to his department.

The APD confirmed the young officer’s tragic death in a press release later the same day.

“It is with a very heavy heart we have to announce the passing of one of our own,” the police department said. “[Officer Scott Bennett] has been battling with MS, and this morning, he started his walk with Jesus.”

The agency noted the fallen officer’s family has been “a large part of the Auburndale Police Department.”

“Rest in peace, Scott. You’ll be sorely missed!” the APD said.

Well over 150 people offered their condolences to Officer Bennett’s family and the police department in response to the agency’s announcement.

“This one of the greatest people that impact my life in such a positive way through school and football,” one message read. “He was always motivating me even when I was down. I have the most respect to him like he was my dad I appreciate everything you done to impact my life!!”

“I am so deeply sorry to hear the sad news about Scott’s passing,” another person wrote. “He was a fine young man who served his city well. Condolences sent to the entire Bennett family. My prayers are with you.”

Many people said they were grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Officer Bennett.

“Sending my prayers to the Bennett family and the APD,” one such message read. “It was my pleasure to have worked with officer Bennett.”

Officer Bennett will be laid to rest on June 2.
