According to Fox4Now,  the incident occurred at about 10:00 PM at the M&M Store at 944 Kentucky Avenue. Deputy Moorehead was talking with subjects behind the store after recognizing one person who had an active warrant for their arrest.  While Deputy Moorehead was just walking in the area, one male suspect suddenly, and without warning, pulled out a gun and fired four times, according to WINK News.

Deputy Moorehead was hit in the upper left arm and was rushed to a local trauma center.  He is listed in stable condition and remains hospitalized.

The unidentified suspect was arrested and charged on Friday with attempted murder.

The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are conducting the investigation. They are also looking for a second suspect who is believed to be involved, according to the SunSentinel.  Deputy Moorehead had just graduated from the police academy and has been with the HCSO for four months.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Hendry County Deputy Jayson Moorehead, and we wish him a swift recovery.

Police officers never know whether they will be shot and killed on their first day on the job, or their last day. Each day that these heroes put in their badges, they risk their lives to protect their communities.

Please feel free to leave a comment for the injured hero.
