A gunman accused of killing three people and wounding one other victim was fatally shot by police on Tuesday morning.

Great Falls, MT – A gunman accused of killing three people and wounding one other victim was fatally shot by Great Falls police early Tuesday morning.

The 911 center received a call requesting emergency medical assistance at the Emerald Casino on 10th Avenue South just after 2 a.m., the Great Falls Police Department (GFPD) said in a press release.

GFPD officers and Great Falls Fire Rescue paramedics responded to the scene and located three victims inside the business.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators also discovered that a fourth victim had been transported to Benefis Hospital, where he is being treated for his wounds.

The gunman fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival, but was located in the area of 7th Avenue South and 26th Street at approximately 5:45 a.m., according to the release.

“Gunshots were fired and the suspect was fatally wounded,” the GFPD said. “There is no longer a danger to the public.”

The identities of the gunman and the four victims have not been released.

The events that led up to the triple homicide are unclear, and police have not disclosed any potential motives.

Classes at a nearby elementary school were cancelled for the day as police investigate the two crime scenes.

“This is a complex investigation and community members may see a police presence [in the area]…for the next several days,” the GFPD said in the press release. “Please aid the investigators by staying away from the scenes.”

GFPD detectives are continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting and triple homicide with the assistance of the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshalls Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
