Atlanta, GA – A Fulton County sheriff’s deputy was found fatally shot inside a vehicle early Thursday morning.
The unidentified deputy’s body was discovered in the driver’s seat of a silver car that had been involved in a crash on Bolton Road Northwest, WAGA reported.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 29 after receiving a report of shots fired.
Investigators said the crash potentially involved a second vehicle that fled the scene, WAGA reported.
Police said they do not have a description of a second vehicle or of the gunman.
Officials confirmed the deceased victim was a young man who served with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), but his name has not been released, WAGA reported.
It is unclear if he was shot before or after the crash.
The intersection of Peyton Road and Bolton Road was blocked off by police on Thursday morning, according to WSB.
They also shut down all lanes between I-285 and Jackson Parkway.
Investigators urged anyone with information about the crash or the shooting to contact the Atlanta Police Department immediately.
