Holly MatkinWashington, DC – The former vice chair of the DC Metropolitan Police Union has been arrested for felony fraud after investigators determined he had been working a second job at Whole Foods while he was also on the clock as a DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer.
MPD Officer Medgar Webster, 52, has been placed on administrative leave and “has been proposed for indefinite suspension,” an MPD spokesperson told the Washington City Paper.
According to court documents, Officer Webster was employed at three different Whole Foods grocery store locations between January 2021 and April of 2022, the Washington City Paper reported.
He was also employed by the MPD during the same timeframe.
Officer Webster collected $33,845 from the MPD during that period, which also included $17,407 in overtime, prosecutors said.
According to court documents, Officer Webster’s MPD shifts overlapped with 485 of the 1,399 hours he was simultaneously working at Whole Foods during that time, the Washington City Paper reported.
His regular hourly rate at the MPD was $53.11, and his overtime pay was $79.67, according to DCist.
Officer Webster was arrested on a felony fraud charge on Feb. 4 in connection with the allegations.
He faces up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted, the New York Post reported.
Officer Webster has been on suspended status from the MPD since April of 2022 amid allegations he committed sexual abuse at one of the Whole Food stores where he was working.
According to police, the alleged victim reported Officer Webster had “engaged in unwanted sexual contact with her,” but it does not appear he was ever formally charged in connection with that report, the Washington City Paper reported.
He resigned as vice chair of the DC Metropolitan Police Union nearly one year ago, union President Gregg Pemberton told the news outlet.
Officer Webster’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the criminal charge, according to DCist.
