Florida Man Says ‘Voodoo’ Caused Him To Rape, Impregnate 13-Year-Old Girl

West Palm Beach, FL – A 41-year-old man clamed “voodoo” is to blame for causing him to rape and impregnate a 13-year-old girl, according to police.

The investigation into 41-year-old Jean Innocent began on Dec. 19, after a 13-year-old girl suffering from abdominal pain showed up at St. Mary’s Medical Center, the Miami Herald reported.

According to court records, a pregnancy test revealed the young girl was approximately six weeks pregnant, according to KATV.

She told investigators that 41-year-old Jean Innocent raped her multiple times since she underwent abdominal surgery in July of 2020, with the last assault occurring in November, according to police.

During that incident, the victim said Innocent came into her bedroom and pulled down her pants before telling her to “give me 10 minutes,” court documents read.

Police said the girl told them Innocent raped her, then stopped and said “never mind” because she was crying and had told him “No,” WPLG reported.

According to the investigative report, detectives conducted a one-party consent-controlled telephone call from the victim to Innocent, KATV reported.

During the call, the teen told Innocent that the hospital was going to be conducting a pregnancy test on her because she had been vomiting and experiencing abdominal pain.

Innocent “told her to say no and began making up a story to tell about a relationship with a boy named ‘Semen,’” West Palm Beach Police Detective Brittany Tatum wrote in the report, according to WPLG. “He told the victim if she tells he will go to jail.”

Innocent also told the girl she wasn’t pregnant and that her period wasn’t due for another week, according to police.

Police subsequently arrested Innocent, KATV reported.

He did not deny the incestuous rape and impregnation of the teen, but claimed “during a post-Miranda interview…that he believes VOODOO caused him” to commit the sexual assault, the investigative report read, according to the Miami Herald.

He allegedly told detectives that “he believes his pre-ejaculation could have caused [the victim] to become pregnant,” according to court documents.

Innocent confessed to having raped the teen in both September and November, police said.

During the assault in September, he allegedly told the victim he just needed “five minutes,” and claimed the incident lasted just seconds, KATV reported.

Police said Innocent told them he went into the victim’s bedroom in November and asked her for “10 minutes” before promising it would be “the last time,” according to court documents.

He allegedly told police the victim said “OK,” but that she was crying, KATV reported.

Innocent was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of impregnation of a child, incest, and two counts of sexual battery of a child in familial or custodial care, the Miami Herald reported.

His bond was set at $28,000.
