Fayetteville Police Officer Assassinated Behind Police Station

"One of my police officers was executed tonight," Chief Mike Reynolds said.

Fayetteville, AR – A Fayetteville police officer was assassinated behind the police department Saturday night.

The attack occurred at around 9:41 p.m. when an officer was alone in the parking lot waiting for his partner, according to Fayetteville Chief Mike Reynolds.

Officers inside of the building heard gunshots coming from the parking lot.

The officers rushed to the back parking lot where they found an officer down and a gunman fleeing.

The officers engaged the shooter in a gunfight and took him out.

The wounded officer and his killer died on scene.

Chief Reynolds said that the suspect “executed one of my police officers.”

The identities of the murdered officer and his killer have not been released at this time.

The FBI is handling the investigation.
