Father Shoots Texas Barber Over 13-Year-Old Son’s Haircut

Police are looking for a man who shot a Katy barber three times during a dispute about his 13-year-old son's haircut.

Katy, TX – A Texas father shot a barber in Harris County in a dispute over the haircut his 13-year-old son received on Saturday.

The incident began at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 21 after the man brought his son into Magic’s Kutts and Fades on Franz Road in Katy, KTRK reported.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the owner of the shop said that the father and son left the barber shop after the haircut but returned about 20 minutes later.

According to the owner, the father said that he didn’t like that the haircut would only last two weeks, despite the fact he hadn’t given the barber any instructions prior to the haircut, KTRK reported.

The owner said he offered the father a free haircut for his son, but the man refused and paid a different barber to give the boy a haircut that would last longer.

Then he got into a fight with the first barber in the parking lot, KTRK reported.

Police said the 13-year-old son was in the car watching as his father pulled out a gun and shot the barber three times, KHOU reported.

“That is one of the worst ones I’ve heard, especially with your son being here, witnessing what you’re doing,” Harris County Detective Wallace Wyatt said, according to CNN.

The barber was hit in the stomach, leg, and arm.

He was transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition, the Fort Wayne Star-Telegram reported.

“I think it’s just crazy for anyone to shoot anybody over a haircut, period,” Det. Wyatt said. “Like I said, the disturbing part is his 13-year-old son witnessed this, which makes him a part of this, so this 13-year-old son knows he needs to come forward and tell us what happened. The father knows he needs to come forward and tell us what happened. Just to be an example, to be a good father and say, ‘I messed up. I have something to prove to my son, and this is how you fix it.'”

There were also several witnesses inside the barber shop, according to KHOU.

Detectives were investigating whether there was surveillance video that may have captured the shooting.

TMZ reported on Monday afternoon that police have identified the gunman.

“Investigators have identified a man believed to have been involved in the barber shop shooting,” the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“No charges have been filed at this time, and we are asking that he contact investigators directly to tell his version of what transpired.”
