Father Kills Baby Daughter’s Mother, Kidnaps Child, Then Kills Daughter And Himself

Covington, GA – A man shot the mother of his baby and the baby’s grandmother multiple times on Saturday night before kidnapping their one-year-old daughter.

Authorities said that 38-year-old Darian Javaris Bennett then killed the baby and himself on Sunday morning in Riverdale, WXIA reported.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 call at about 11:14 p.m. on June 11 from a residence on Chandler Field Drive in Covington.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Jack Redlinger said that when deputies arrived at the home, the door was answered by the two older children of the woman who had been killed, ages 11 and 12.

Sgt. Redlinger said responding deputies found the baby’s mother fatally shot and her grandmother suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, WXIA reported.

Authorities said the baby’s grandmother was able to tell deputies that she and her daughter had been shot by Bennett.

She told deputies that Bennett had taken his daughter, one-year-old Jaquari Bennett, and fled the home after he shot them, WXIA reported.

The grandmother was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment in critical condition, Gray News reported.

No updates on her condition have been released, according to WXIA.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) issued an Amber Alert late Saturday night for the missing baby.

Authorities said the pair was believed to be traveling in a 2000 black Honda Accord with Georgia license plates, Gray News reported.

Riverdale police responded to the second shooting scene early on Sunday morning on Adams Drive near Riverdale Road in Clayton County.

It wasn’t known how officers were summoned to the scene, Gray News reported.

Bennett and his baby daughter were both found dead at the scene, according to WXIA.
