Tom GantertChadron, NE – A family built a Ford Mustang out of snow that looked so realistic that a state trooper stopped to issue the car a mock ticket (video below).
After a snowstorm on March 9, 43-year-old Jason Blundell and his two teenage children shoveled snow into a large mound and got creative, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
James, 17-year-old Shelby (named after the Mustang), and 15-year-old Spencer spent five hours sculpting a replica of their 1967 Ford Mustang GTA entirely out of the snow. The real car stayed in the garage, safely out of the elements.
The Blundells used a skid loader, concrete wood floats, shovels, ice scrapers, and a squirt bottle to craft their work of art, now known virally as the #SnowPony, the Omaha World Herald reported.
Spencer even measured their real Mustang in the garage to make sure the dimensions were correct on the snow version.
“We actually had somebody come by while we were building it and they thought we were burying somebody’s car,” Jason told the Omaha World-Herald.
Proud of their work, they posted a photo of the snow car on Facebook.
Nebraska State Patrol Sergeant Mick Downing, who attends church with the Blundells, saw the Facebook post and was impressed. So he went to check it out in person.
Sgt. Downing drove by in his police vehicle and filmed himself giving the sculpted snow car a pretend tow notice, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
Then he posted that video on the Nebraska State Police’s social media outlets.
“What in the heck?” Sgt. Downing joked in the video. “Some people make snow men. Not the people in the northwest of the panhandle. They make snow cars, snow Mustangs.”
The video quickly went viral internationally.
The snow Mustang wasn’t the first winter work of art for the Blundell family, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
In the past, they built a seven-foot-tall snow Easter bunny during spring snow storms.
After a fall snowstorm, they crafted a six-foot-tall jack-o’-lantern and then carved out all the snow from inside and lit it up with a candle. They also painted the snow orange.
Additionally, the Blundells once built a giant snow toilet, the Omaha World-Herald reported
