DEVELOPING: Kentucky Officer Murdered, Drones Launched To Find Suspect

A Pikeville police officer was murdered on Tuesday night.

Pikeville, KY – Kentucky State Police (KSP) are searching for a suspect in connection with the murder of a Pikeville Police Department (PPD) officer who was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at approximately 11:30 p.m., when PPD Officer Scotty Hamilton was fatally shot while he responded to a call with the state police in the Hurricane community, WSAZ reported.

One person was taken into custody, and KSP troopers deployed drones to search for a second suspect.

The identities of the suspects have not been released.

Officer Hamilton, a 12-year veteran on the PPD, leaves behind a wife and a young child.

The KSP was leading the ongoing investigation, Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter told the Lexington Herald Leader.
