Democratic Leader Demands Removal Of Anti-Biden Billboard, Regardless Of Legality

Huntingtown, MD – Critics have demanded local officials find a way to skirt the First Amendment in order to force a resident to take down a roadside sign depicting the faces of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris popping out of two piles of cartoon feces.

“DON’T BLAME TRUMP! YOU ARE STUCK WITH THESE TWO S—T HEADS!!!” the sign located on private property near Bowie Shop Road and Route 4 reads. “From all your deplorables in Calvert County.”

Calvert County Democratic Central Committee Chair Jeanette Flaim denounced the sign as “vulgar” and demanded Calvert County leaders have it taken down immediately, WNYW reported.

“Kids are going to school, and they’re going by it every day, and parents are driving their kids,” Flaim told the news outlet. “We just don’t think kids should have to see that or parents should have to explain that.”

But according to Board of County Commissioners President Buddy Hance, nothing about the sign is illegal.

“There is nothing that we as county government can do for language that’s on a legal sign,” Hance told WNYW. “You know this country was built on the foundation of free speech, and sometimes we like what that free speech says and sometimes we don’t.”

The Calvert County Government’s Facebook page also included a post about the “provocative billboard.”

It included an advisement to citizens that the U.S. Supreme Court has previously ruled the county “cannot regulate sign content.”

“The Calvert County local sign regulations are based on location, materials and size, not verbiage,” the post read. “Regulating any content based on the Supreme Court decision would be illegal.”

Flaim argued that this particular sign is “deeply disturbing” and “damaging” to all residents and should be an exception.

“We have not complained about any other signs,” Flaim said. “It’s this sign we think is, again, damaging to all of us, all of us in Calvert. The GOP, the Independents, everybody.”

“It certainly shouldn’t be what our visitors remember us for,” she told WTOP.
