Sandusky, OH – Two people were arrested at Cedar Point amusement park on Sunday after they were caught having sex on the giant Ferris wheel.
Sandusky police said the incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 14 when witnesses reported seeing the couple engaging in sexual intercourse on the Giant Wheel ride as it was in motion, WJW reported.
The witnesses were two adult women and two minor girls, according to authorities.
“We go on, and it was going well until we stopped at the top,” a witness told officers. “My friend saw the couple in front of us having sexual intercourse and pointed it out to the rest of us.”
Police said the people on the ride behind the couple tried to alert Cedar Point staff while the ride was in motion, but the employees didn’t hear them, WJW reported.
As soon as the ride stopped, the witnesses reported the incident to security personnel and Cedar Point police.
“I was able to have a perfect view of their cart,” another witness told police. “They were going back and forth and laughing at us being visibly upset.”
One of the juvenile girls told officers that she was shaken up after the experience, WJW reported.
Cedar Point police contacted the parents of both of the girls and notified them of what had happened on the amusement park ride.
“Due to two witnesses being juveniles the charge was enhanced to a misdemeanor of the first degree,” according to the police report.
When police approached the couple, they initially denied the allegations they’d had sex on the Ferris wheel, WJW reported.
She told police that she had shorts on under her dress and had dropped a cigarette pack out of them.
The woman claimed she had bent over to pick up the cigarettes and her male friend was helping her, WJW reported.
“I then spoke to the couple again and advised them that the girls clearly saw what they were doing,” Sandusky Police Officer Nicole Kennedy Bogard wrote in her report. “Eventually the couple did admit that they were engaged in sexual intercourse.”
The pair were arrested on public indecency charges, WJW reported.
They were released on personal bonds and are scheduled to appear in court again at a later date.
