Corrections Officer Arrested, Accused Of Having Sex With Inmate

Rebecca Anderson's boyfriend told police she had sex with an inmate while she worked as a jailer

Granbury, TX – A detention officer at the Hood County jail was charged with having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate after her boyfriend gave a tip to the police.

Rebecca Anderson, 23, surrendered to police and was arrested March 22 for violating the right of a person in custody, which is a felony, according to KDFW.

She is now free on a $5,000 bond.

Anderson is accused of having sex with an inmate she was in charge of overseeing when she worked at the jail for just more than a year before resigning in 2018.

“Something like that happens, it really does disgust me that it went on,” Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds said, according to KDFW. “And I’m not going to tolerate that, so we turned it over and called in the Rangers right away on it.”

Anderson’s attorney Bill Walsh said people are making a rush to judgment about his client.

“She cooperated with the Texas Rangers coming in the minute she heard of some accusations,” Walsh said, according to KDFW. “She is innocent until proven guilty. I’ve got it going in, it’s a constitutional right. Until there’s some evidence presented that some jury would convict her beyond a reasonable doubt, she’s innocent.”

Sheriff Deeds said the inmate that had allegedly had sex with Anderson was of “trustee” status, which means he had special privileges.

“I’ve got to serve and protect them, feed them three meals a day, take care of them and make sure no harm comes of them for any reason,” Sheriff Deeds said, according to KDFW. “So this should’ve never happened.”

Anderson is currently serving in the military, according to her attorney.

“She is 23 and military minded,” Walsh said, according to People. “Dad raised her and her and her dad are glued to each other. They have so much respect for each other. This doesn’t fit a profile of somebody who would commit this crime.”
