Hostage Situation At James T. Vaughn Correctional Center
Smynra, DE – A hostage situation is in progress as James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, Delaware after prisoners overran the facility.
Our police sources tell us that at around 11 AM there was a situation at the prison where at least one corrections employee was stabbed and has life-threatening injuries. Inmates have taken over the facility and are currently believed to be holding 3 to 5 officers corrections employees hostage. Lines of communication have been opened where prisoners are ranting about the way that they are being treated.
The News Journal was called by a fiancee of one of the prisoners who patched the prisoner through. The unidentified prisoner made a “hodgepodge of five-dollar words meant to give the impression of a manifesto or decree” related to prison reform.
You can hear the audio recordings of the prisoner here:
We can be assured that no prisoners are going to make it out of the prison as the entire facility if surrounded by tactical units.
All prisons in the state have been placed on lockdown due to this incident.
The Blood Bank of Delmarva has been requesting extra donations of type-O blood to go to Smyrna because the hospital is anticipating the need for blood.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the hostages and all responders on scene.
