Concealed Carry Holder Ventilates Armed Robber On Christmas Eve

A concealed carry holder fatally shot a man who tried to rob him on Christmas Eve.

Chicago, IL – A would-be robber picked the wrong potential victim and targeted a concealed carry holder on Christmas Eve.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, at a strip mall in the 1200 block of South Jefferson Street, in Chicago’s South Loop, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police said that the suspect, Corey Haggard, walked up to his 31-year-old victim as he was leaving a store.

Haggard demanded money from the victim, and pulled out a gun, police said.

Authorities said the victim pulled out his own gun, and fatally shot Haggard in the chest.

Haggard, 37, died at Stroger Hospital on Christmas night, according to the medical examiner.

Police said the would-be victim had a valid license from Indiana to carry a concealed weapon. His name has not been released, and he is not facing any charges.

This was the second instance of a concealed carry holder preventing an attack in Chicago in the same week.

On Monday, Dec. 18, a naked man was shot in the leg by a concealed carry holder after he broke glass outside a retail store and began acting in a threatening manner toward others, according to WBBM.

The concealed carry holder in that case also was questioned by investigators and released without being charged, police said.

There were 22 instances of civilians with legal firearms who were able to prevent attacks against themselves or others over the past month in the United States, according to the Crime Prevention Research Center.

Two of the attacks were prevented in Chicago.

During the four-day Christmas holiday weekend, five people were killed and at least 20 people were wounded in shootings throughout Chicago, according to WBBN.
