Colorado Officer Shot, Teen Suspect Killed After Armed Robbery Of Postal Worker

Lakewood, CO – A Lakewood police officer was shot and one of two teenage female suspects accused of robbing a mail carrier was killed during a confrontation outside a Colorado auto repair shop on Monday night.

The incident began shortly before 3:30 p.m. on March 27, when the Lakewood Police Department (LPD) received a report of a postal worker being robbed at gunpoint by two female suspects in the area of West Alameda Avenue and South Oak Street, CBS News reported.

Police said several items were taken during the holdup, according to KUSA.

The mail carrier was able to get to safety at a nearby home and called 911.

Investigators said the postal worker wasn’t injured in the attack.

Officers responded to the scene and located one of the suspects near a Grease Monkey auto repair shop approximately one block away from where the robbery occurred, CBS News reported.

Investigators said the suspect pointed a gun at police, at which point several officers fired their duty weapons, according to KUSA reported.

The wounded suspect was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead several hours later.

Her identity was not immediately released.

A Lakewood police officer was also struck by gunfire during the confrontation, KUSA reported.

Investigators said they are still working to determine who shot the officer and whether the suspect fired any rounds during the encounter with police.

The wounded officer was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, KUSA reported.

The second armed robbery suspect was apprehended in Frederick at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Monday, police said.

Her identity was also not immediately released.

Police confirmed both of the suspects involved in the holdup were juveniles, KUSA reported.
